Monday 7th March – bike *** – Two rivers – Deben to the Orwell – sunny periods and chilly.

With a keen wind from the East it was too cold to go windsurfing especially with my hands and heel playing up a top cold foiling session on the Stour yesterday. So did my exercises and Mag had a quick spin on her bike doing a few chores, then after lunch with the sun now out I decided to head out on the bike with Mag deciding to go for a walk to the sea instead. Wrapping up against the cold I set off to the woods at The Grove, the trees were lovely set against the deep blue sky. Out onto Gulpher Road and down the very quiet Marsh Lane to Kings Fleet where the swans were once again grazing in the fields and a huge flock of geese landed on the field opposite, amazing to see. Up onto the Deben path leading to Felixstowe Ferry where I stop to take a few pics before stopping by the jetty for my snack enjoying the beautiful scenery with a huge container ship heading in. I then continue back towards the Martello and get really lucky, I clip a wooden post with my handle bars and very nearly nearly bike over the edge, it is a big drop here maybe 6 feet to concrete steps below, I just saved myself from going over, I was very lucky! The Environment agency were out in force with four vans parked up at the end of the golf course so I wondered what they were up too? I then found four of them close together painting the blue warning line that runs along the prom, what a load of humpties!!! Four of them to paint one blue line arriving there in four vehicles you just can’t imagine how much that was costing:( I continue along the prom and with the tide high and the onshore breeze it was choppy with waves breaking over:) I pushed my bike up the windy path before continuing around to The Fludgers and with the breeze behind me it was very pleasant as I whizzed all the way to the River Orwell at Landguard. It was again stunning here with the sun on the water with the tide shooting out, there were loads of gull and the pilot boat was making its way out. Onto the viewpoint before heading for home with a small detour through Langer Park and home for a cuppa and cuppa, then I send some pics to the local TV weather and was lucky enough to get one on, I haven’t had one on the BBC for ages so am well chuffed!
It is going to be windy for several days now and may even get to 15 degrees, just hope my fingers and heel calm down so I can have some foiling action!
